40s

Your 40s

Nothing dramatic happened.
Several small things happened at once.

Firmness, tone, texture and how long a mark lingers all shift together in your forties. Which is why fixing one of them rarely fixes the face you noticed in the photograph.

What's actually happening

Your skin is still renewing. That part doesn't stop.

What changes in your forties is the quality of each cycle. Skin holds less water than it used to. It rebuilds a little more slowly. And it repairs unevenly, so a mark that used to fade in a week now sits there for a month.

That last one is usually what people actually notice. Not a line. A photograph where the tone looks patchy and the whole face reads tired.

So four things arrive at once and get read as one problem. Which is why a single anti-wrinkle product so often disappoints. It was only ever addressing a quarter of what you were looking at.

I don't build a 40s routine around the line. I build it around the cycle.

The routine

Three products. That's the whole thing.

Not five, not ten. One product per job, in the order that lets each one actually reach your skin.

01
Cleanse
$38

Takes off makeup and the day without stripping the oils your barrier rebuilds with overnight. Lukewarm water, thirty seconds. That's genuinely enough.

02
Treat — the one doing the work
Two versions, depending on your skin

F3 Hydration & Skin Plumping Bio-Serum — $82
If your skin feels dry, tight, or thirsty by the afternoon. Start here, because nothing else works properly on a dehydrated barrier.

F19 Just Fruit Antioxidant Serum — $82
If hydration isn't your issue and what bothers you is tone and dullness. It is also the one doing the antioxidant work, which is what your skin uses to handle the daylight it gets.

Same price, different job. You're not choosing which is better, you're choosing which is you.

03
Moisturize
$71

Ceramides are part of what holds the barrier together. This goes on while the serum is still slightly tacky, which is what seals it in rather than letting it evaporate off.

Around $191 for all three. If you only want to start with one, start with the serum.

The part that shows first

Your hands give it away
before your face does.

Hands are thinner-skinned than your face, take the same sun, and get washed a dozen times a day. They're usually where age spots turn up first — and they're the last place anyone puts something that actually works.

F111 Hand Renewal Balm

F111 Hand Renewal Balm

$62

This is 3% bakuchiol — the same active that's in F108 at 10%, at the concentration hands actually need. It supports collagen and works on the appearance of age spots, which is emphatically not what a scented hand cream is doing.

Keep it by the sink rather than in a drawer. The one by the sink is the one that gets used.

Adjust for how you live

Four things that depend on you, not your age.

If you wear makeup most days

Add F34 Rose Resurfacing Facial Polish ($65) twice a week. It isn't a second cleanser. It's the step that clears what daily cleansing leaves behind, so your serum isn't working through a layer of buildup.

If your skin runs oily, or you live somewhere humid

F88 Rose Gold Radiance Toner ($48) earns its place. If your skin feels tight after cleansing, you don't need a toner at all. Skip it.

If the eye area is what you notice first

F22 Eye Lift + Density Repair Cream (from $85). The skin there is thinner and behaves differently, which is the only reason it gets its own product rather than more of the same one.

If you want your evening to do more

F109 When I Dream Night Cream ($125) in place of F20 at night. Skin does most of its repair while you sleep, so it's the one slot where a richer formula genuinely earns the money.

If you want to go further

F108, and why it costs what it costs.

F108 The Renewal Accelerator Bio-Serum

F108 The Renewal Accelerator Bio-Serum

From $322

This is the most concentrated formula I make, at 10% bakuchiol. That concentration is the reason for the price — it is genuinely expensive to produce, and I'd rather tell you that than dress it up.

It's also, to my slight surprise, our best-selling product. People buy it, finish it, and buy it again, which is the only endorsement I actually trust.

It's built for firmness and tone rather than surface comfort, and it layers underneath whichever serum you chose in step 02 — F3 or F19 stays as your root serum, F108 goes beneath it as the treatment. Morning and night both: bakuchiol is sun-protective rather than sun-sensitizing, which is where it parts company with retinol, so it's as much a daytime product as a night one. Give it months rather than weeks, because that's the timescale skin actually works on.

If you're not sure, don't start here. Start with the three products above, give them ninety days, and add this when you want more. It'll still be here.

Or buy it as a system

The 40s systems

F108 Structural Renewal System

F108 Structural Renewal System

From $379

The one I'd put most people on at this stage. F108 with a support layer you choose at checkout.

If tone and pigmentation are the main thingThe Tone Shift System, from $389.

If firmness is the main thingDermal Architecture: Density + Contour, from $395.

What clients often notice

"I started seeing the first real shifts in my 40s, lines that didn't disappear and skin that felt less firm. After consistent use, my skin looks smoother and more supported. It feels stronger."

The real story

Formulated fresh. Never warehoused.

01
Most skincare is manufactured months, sometimes years, before it reaches a shelf — formulated to survive that wait rather than to perform at its peak.
02
Live botanical actives degrade in storage. The longer a formula sits, the less it can do by the time it reaches your skin.
03
We make in small batches every week and ship straight from the lab. Use it within three or four months of it arriving — that's the window where the actives are at their best.

Common questions

Before you start

How long before I see anything?
Hydration and plumpness within days. Texture and tone begin showing before the month is out and keep building from there — clearest at one month, then again at two and three. Fine lines and firmness work on the longest timeline, around ninety days. Skin renews in cycles, so what you're looking at by month three is everything the earlier cycles built, compounding.
What about sun?
Cover up and use a mineral filter when you are out in it for a real stretch. The rest of the time what matters more is what your skin has in reserve to handle the daylight it does get, which is what the antioxidants in F19 are there for. The exception is active pigmentation: while you are working on a spot, sun is working against you.
Can I really start with just one product?
Yes, and I'd rather you did. Start with the serum. One product you use every day beats three you use sporadically, and it also means you can actually tell what's working.
Will fresh formulas expire before I finish them?
No. Oil-based serums stay stable for years; water-based formulas have the shortest runway at roughly four to eight months. What changes over time isn't safety, it's potency — which is why I'll always tell you to use it within three or four months rather than save it.
What if it isn't right for my skin?
You have 30 days from delivery to request a return, provided the product is largely unused. If something isn't working, email us and we'll sort it out.

"I started making my own skincare because I wanted to understand why some ingredients transformed the skin and others seemed to do very little. I don't believe great skincare is something you manufacture. I believe it's something you nurture."

While you're here

The rest of you.

None of this is part of the routine and none of it is necessary. It's just what people most often add.

Still not sure where to begin?

The quiz asks about your climate and how your skin actually behaves, which are the two things this page can't know about you.
